The Strawberry School
House is the Oldest Standing School House in Arizona. Built in 1885 it
is a State Historical Site. |

have a growing nunber of Museums and other Historical Sites. |
The Rim Country Museum at Green Valley Park Surrounded
by lakes and rolling hills, this three-building, two-story facility includes
the first forest ranger station in Payson and a replica of the historic Herron
Hotel, which burned in 1918. Admission to the Rim Country Museum is $3.00
for adults, $2.50 for seniors 55 and over, $2.00 for students 12 to 17, and
free for children 11 and under. The museum is open noon to 4:00 PM
Wednesday through Sunday. Operated by the Northern Gila County Historical
Society, A non-profit corporation, founded in 1986. |
The Main Street Walking Tour A recent addition to the
Northern Gila County Historical Society, the tour uses a site by site Guide
Book that you carry with you as you progress fron the Rim Country Regional
Chamber of Commerce office at the Beeline down Main Street to the Green Valley
Park. The Guide Books can be picked up at the chamber office or the Rim
Country Museum, and the self-guided tour can be taken at any time of the
day. |
The Museum of Rim Country Archaeology The Rim Country's
newest museum, commonly referred to as MRCA opened last year. Located at the
Payson Womans Club, the MRCA houses artifacts from two prehistoric sites. The
museum is open from noon to 4:00PM Wednesday through Sunday. Admission is $2
for adults, $1.50 for seniors and $1 for students. |
The Pine-Strawberry Museum Located in a former Mormon
Church in Pine, the museum offers a look at the area in the 19th century,
including a video presentation on the lives and times of the early western
pioneers. The museum also has an archaeology room with artifacts from
around the Strawberry-Pine-Rim ares, and a main room that houses the old church
organ. In the summer, the museum is open from 9:00AM to 4:00PM Monday
through Saturday and 1:00PM to 4:00PM Sunday. The museum's winter hours are
10:AM to 2:00PM Monday through Saturday. There is no admission fee
