What to do in...
Arizona's White Mountains Trails Ends Cabins

Many recreation sites on the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests have fairly level terrain and are accessible to most visitors. Travel in more rugged terrain may require 4-wheel drive vehicles and an assistant or guide. Site-seeing accessibility is contingent on terrain characteristics for each area. There is however, a full range of recreational opportunity available for the novice or expert.

Diverse facilities allow participation for people of all abilities. Forest Service offices provide literature for visitors who wish to learn more about the environment, National Forest management, and local history. In addition, there are several nature trails and an arboretum with a self-guided tour at the Heber Ranger District office. There is a visitor center at Big Lake and at the top of the Mogollon Rim on Highway 260.

Campgrounds at Canyon Point, Rolfe C. Hoyer, and Woods Canyon Lake have outdoor amphitheaters for evening programs. Cassette tape recorders with 30-90 minute tapes are available at the Lakeside Ranger District Office in Lakeside. These tapes lead visitors on a 1- to- 2 hour auto tour of the Lakeside District presenting historical data and information on forest management.

DDistrict Offices in Clifton and Alpine also have tapes available for those traveling the Coronado Scenic Byway. Many developed recreation sites have Hosts who act as contacts between visitors and the Forest Service.
