Facilities
The community has a broad range of facilities, including an area high
school dome seating 5,000, a library, a museum (Cushman Art Collection), a
heated Olympic-size swimming pool, two racquetball courts, a lighted tennis
court, athletic facilities at the school/community gym, such as football and
baseball fields, and several parks: Downtown Mini Park, and City Park (includes
Historic Park).
Becker Lake (two miles west) has a history as one of the southwest's
best trout producers. Lyman Lake State Park (17 miles northwest on U.S. 180)
offers
fishing, swimming,
boating, water skiing,
camping, buffalo, Indian petroglyphs, Rattlesnake
Ruins and picnic facilities.
The community offers a variety of accommodations (motels, cabins,
trailer parks and campgrounds) to suit visitor needs. Complete shopping and
professional services are also available.
Springerville is also the nearest full-service community to
Apache Sunrise Ski
Resort, owned and operated by the White Mountain Apache tribe (26 miles
southwest). Sunrise offers ski programs for all ages and more than 60 trails at
an elevation of up to 11,000 feet.
The communities of Alpine (20 miles southeast) and
Greer (17 miles southwest) offer
cross country ski trails, along with sledding, snowmobiling, and other winter
recreation. Springerville serves as a tourism hub to the Blue Range Wilderness
Area, three Indian reservations,
Petrified
Forest, Gila National Forest, Indian petroglyphs, and volcanic
formations.
Communication
In addition to communication resources from the rest of the state,
Springerville has local area weekly and bi-weekly newspapers, a local radio
station and stations received from Show Low. Television is available via cable,
and three UHF channels are received from Tucson. Internet access is available.
Education
There is one public elementary school, one middle school,
one high school and a community college. School enrollment is more than 1,800
students.
Post-secondary education is available through
Northland Pioneer
College, a nationally-accredited, state-supported community college,
with degree centers in St. Johns and Springerville/Eagar and course sites in
Sanders, Ganado, Window Rock and other communities throughout the county.
NPC
offers adult basic education, continuing education, vocational, academic
transfer and personal interest programs. For information, call

St. Johns. Northern Arizona University, in cooperation with NPC, offers upper
division and graduate courses at several locations throughout the county.

Medical
Medical facilities include one hospital with 25 beds, plus
44 convalescent care, 10 assisted-living apartments, 13 physicians, four
dentists, two chiropractors, and one optometrist. Ambulance service is provided
by the Round Valley Ambulance Service and several air ambulance services.
Financial
There are three
banks in the area: National Bank of Arizona is located in Springerville;
Community First and Frontier Banks in Eagar.
Apache County
businesses are also eligible for assistance in financing fixed assets
through the Finance Division, Arizona Department of Commerce. Information on

Governmental
The Town of Springerville is governed by a mayor,
four council members, and a town manager, and served by the sheriff's
department and the local police department. The fire department has 18
volunteers and five EMTs.
Airport
Residents of Springerville have access to Springerville
Municipal Field which has two lighted and paved runways (8,400- foot and
4,600-foot) with radio and non-directional beacon, a 4,000-square-foot
terminal, 14,000-square-foot hanger with complete pilot facilities and lounge.
Industrial Properties
Springerville has developed an industrial air-park adjacent to the
airport property. Information on availability, infrastructure and cost can be

There
are six motels with 206 rooms and nine trailer parks with 228 spaces available
in the area, along with several meeting facilities, the largest seating 5,000.
